HLF School Receives Norwegian Guests

On Monday, December 2, 2024, the campus of our school in Buchanan, Help Liberia Foundation Community School, was the scene of interactions, fun, play, Liberian games, Norwegian games and so forth, when the three guests from Norway visited the school.

The three guests, as announced in an earlier article, were Sissel and her two daughters, Ida and Hanne.  They arrived on the campus with their tourist guide, Ambrose.

Three of the school’s Board members, Paul, Monica, and James, were present, and they welcomed the guests to the school. The teachers were also present.

We started with a short in-door welcome program organized by the school, where students performed various roles, including recitation, songs, Bible quotations, etc., and teachers also participated.

Board members, as well as the visiting guests, also made special remarks at the program. Sissel indicated that she was pleased to be in Liberia, and to especially be with the kids at the school. She encouraged the kids to pay attention to their education so that they can have a better future. Sissel also told the students that she was impressed with their performance.

Sissel and her daughters assured the kids that when they go back to Norway, they will continue to remember the kids and the school and, where necessary, they will also talk with other people in Norway about the school and to seek their assistance for the school.

Ida and Hanne also made separate remarks, talking about the places they live in Norway and the activities they are involved in Norway.

After the in-door program, all attendees, including the Board members, the guests, the teachers, and the students went outside to have fun, playing all sorts of games on the campus. Ida and Hanne taught the students and staff some Norwegian games, while the students taught Ida and Hanne some Liberian games. It was a real day for games and fun at the school, and both the kids and our guests enjoyed every moment of it.

Sissel and her girls donated some school materials, books, rice, and items for games such as jump rope, freebies. Sissel also donated USD400 to the school, which money was presented to Mrs. Monica Sackie, a member of the Board.

At some point during out-door games and fun, the Board members informed Sissel about the four lots of land the school has purchased and is planning to construct a modern school building whose cost is more than US$60,000. Sissel became instantly interested and wanted to see the land, and the school Board members took her there. She was impressed.

The school Board members appealed to her to also talk with other people in Norway to help the school construct its proposed building whose total cost is USD67,813.71.

Thank you, Sissel and daughters, for visiting Liberia and, especially, for visiting our school, a school built for the education of poor children in Buchanan.

We at the school encourage all individuals and institutions of good will to kindly help us raise money for the construction of our new school building.
