We are appealing to other individuals and institutions of good will to kindly help us raise the balance $470, as fixing the toilet for the kids is a demand the Authorities at the Education Ministry are making. They are saying our school will not be allowed to re-open or operate next month, if the toilet is not fixed.

As we all anticipate the re-opening of schools in Liberia and the return of the kids that attend our school, the Board of Directors of the school is launching an emergency fundraising for a toilet for the kids.
The current toilet being used by the kids is a dilapidated, unhygienic, and unsafe two-door makeshift structure that is yards away from the school building. It is a pit-latrine put up as a temporary structure more than ten years ago.

When it rains, the water level increases and water fills the pit, making it nearly impossible for the kids and the staff to use it. Besides, the kids have had to be extra careful over the years before they accidentally fall into the pit. Moreover, authorities of the government agency responsible for education has warned us not to allow the kids to use it because it is unhygienic and unsafe.
As a result of all this, the Board has decided to fix a toilet within the main school building. The space is already available, as it was constructed as a residential building.
The Board is planning to cut a partition creating two toilets inside the building for the installation of two commodes, one for the boys and the other for the girls. The toilet will use a bio-digester septic tank, which makes use of a quite small septic tank space constructed using some special chemicals that make it difficult for the septic tank to easily get full.
The total cost of the toilet is estimated to be US$683, broken down as follows:

As the academic year in Liberia runs from September to July each year, our school has closed for the 2024/2025 school year, planning to reopen in September for the 2025/2026 school year.
The closing program, which brought together students, teachers, parents, and others, was held on Sunday, July 13.

There were various activities during the program – recitations, songs, special remarks, and so forth.
The program also saw the graduation of students from Kindergarten, as well as from sixth grade. Those graduating from sixth grade will leave the school, as the school stops to grade six.
The guest speaker was one Mr. Alex Dahngbah. He encouraged the attendees on the essence of education and leadership.

During the delivery of his speech, he said: “Education is like a magical key that opens doors to new worlds. It helps us understand our surrounding, discover our passions, and develops the skills we need to become leaders of tomorrow.”
Also, speaking on behalf of the Board, Madam Monica Sackie thanked the parents for entrusting their kids in the care of the school. She also informed the parents and students that there will be some changes in the new school year, including change of the school’s name, change of the uniform, and some adjustments in the fees charged.

As we look forward to the opening of the 2025/2026 school year in September, it is our prayer and hope that we and our friends and sponsors will continue to work together for the good of the education of poor children in Liberia, especially in Buchanan.
The Board of Directors of Help Liberia Foundation Community School is planning to introduce major changes in the school, beginning the new school year.

The new changes will affect the school’s current name, uniform, fee-payment arrangements and other areas. In short, the school’s current name will be changed to a new name, and the current uniform will be changed to a completely new uniform.
Also, considering current demands and circumstances, the fees charged per student or per class level will be adjusted.

The Board also intends to fix a modern bathroom within the main school building, as the current bathroom being used by the students is in a very terrible condition – it is unsafe and unhygienic.
There will be a special fundraising for that purpose once the final estimate is known. The Board intends to complete the bathroom before the re-opening of school in September.

It is our prayer and hope that the new changes to be introduced and the construction of the inside bathroom will be positively received and will improve things at the school.

Madam Sackie’s friend, Madam Becky T. Oba, is a professional nurse working with Medicines San Frontiers in Monrovia. She is interested in education and in working with kids.

During their trip, they interacted with both the staff and the students. During their trip, also, they discussed with the staff about activities connected with the end of the school year and other plans about the school. It was a one-day visit.
