Happy 2025 to All

As we start the New Year known as 2025, the Board of Help Liberia Foundation Community School would like to wish all those connected with the school a Happy and More Fulfilling 2025.

It is our prayer and hope that the Lord will protect our lives, give us good health, and lead us out of misfortunes.

May the period between January and December bring us joy, not sorrow; laughter, not weeping; blessings, not curses; luck, not misfortunes; acceptance, not rejection; unity, not disunity; progress, not setback, and achievements, not failures.

Happy New Year to all!

HLF School Receives Norwegian Guests

On Monday, December 2, 2024, the campus of our school in Buchanan, Help Liberia Foundation Community School, was the scene of interactions, fun, play, Liberian games, Norwegian games and so forth, when the three guests from Norway visited the school.

The three guests, as announced in an earlier article, were Sissel and her two daughters, Ida and Hanne.  They arrived on the campus with their tourist guide, Ambrose.

Three of the school’s Board members, Paul, Monica, and James, were present, and they welcomed the guests to the school. The teachers were also present.

We started with a short in-door welcome program organized by the school, where students performed various roles, including recitation, songs, Bible quotations, etc., and teachers also participated.

Board members, as well as the visiting guests, also made special remarks at the program. Sissel indicated that she was pleased to be in Liberia, and to especially be with the kids at the school. She encouraged the kids to pay attention to their education so that they can have a better future. Sissel also told the students that she was impressed with their performance.

Sissel and her daughters assured the kids that when they go back to Norway, they will continue to remember the kids and the school and, where necessary, they will also talk with other people in Norway about the school and to seek their assistance for the school.

Ida and Hanne also made separate remarks, talking about the places they live in Norway and the activities they are involved in Norway.

After the in-door program, all attendees, including the Board members, the guests, the teachers, and the students went outside to have fun, playing all sorts of games on the campus. Ida and Hanne taught the students and staff some Norwegian games, while the students taught Ida and Hanne some Liberian games. It was a real day for games and fun at the school, and both the kids and our guests enjoyed every moment of it.

Sissel and her girls donated some school materials, books, rice, and items for games such as jump rope, freebies. Sissel also donated USD400 to the school, which money was presented to Mrs. Monica Sackie, a member of the Board.

At some point during out-door games and fun, the Board members informed Sissel about the four lots of land the school has purchased and is planning to construct a modern school building whose cost is more than US$60,000. Sissel became instantly interested and wanted to see the land, and the school Board members took her there. She was impressed.

The school Board members appealed to her to also talk with other people in Norway to help the school construct its proposed building whose total cost is USD67,813.71.

Thank you, Sissel and daughters, for visiting Liberia and, especially, for visiting our school, a school built for the education of poor children in Buchanan.

We at the school encourage all individuals and institutions of good will to kindly help us raise money for the construction of our new school building.

Three Norwegian Guests to Visit HLF School Soon

Three citizens of Norway will be visiting Liberia this week, and they plan to visit Help Liberia Foundation Community School in Buchanan on December 2 to see and to spend some time with the students, the teachers, and the Board of the school.

Sissel and her girls (L-R): Hanne, Sissel, and Ida

The three visiting guests, all females, are Sissel and her two beautiful daughters, Ida and Hanne. Ida is the older daughter, while Hanne is the younger daughter, but they are all grown and independent women.

Sissel lived in Liberia as a child from 1970 – 1977, and this 2024 trip to Liberia is her first time returning since she left Liberia in 1977, that is, nearly 50 years ago. She’s coming to see the country she once lived in when her parents worked with LAMCO.

In Norway, Sissel works as a nurse, while Hanne is a veterinary nurse, and Ida works in the fisheries industry.

Their visit to the school in Buchanan, as indicated earlier, is set for Monday, December 2. We are excited over the news that Sissel and her two daughters will be visiting Liberia, and they have made visiting the school part of their plans. We are grateful and look forward to seeing them and interacting with them.

School Board Purchases Textbooks for School

The Board of Directors of Help Liberia Foundation Community School in Buchanan has purchased new sets of textbooks for the school.

The books are meant to be used by the teachers in impacting knowledge unto the children, since it is an unbearable financial burden for parents and their children to obtain all of the required textbooks. The teachers will use the books to come up with the appropriate lessons and notes for the kids.

The books purchased are the textbooks prescribed by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Liberia to be used by kids in the elementary division.

There is a set of books for each grade in the elementary division of the school, meaning, grade one to grade sixth, and each set contains four books comprising
the four major subjects – English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

In all, a total of twenty-four (24) textbooks were purchased, costing about US$88. The books were bought from under the old Education Ministry building on Broad Street in Monrovia.

We are grateful to our friends and sponsors in Sweden, through Lena Thorne Marner, for making us get funds to do the purchase.
