Fundraising Update: Please Help Us Raise $470 For the New Toilet

We wish to inform everyone that we have been able to raise $213 of the total of $683 thus far, making the balance to be raised $470.

The current toilet used by both students and teachers

The $213 raised so far was donated by four people, namely: Isabelle Eriksson Mozo in Sweden, Catharine Walker in the UK, Mary Smith in the UK, and Anna Dobrowolska in Poland.

Our heart-felt thanks to Isabelle, Catharine, Mary, and Anna for their generous donations for the cause of the kids!  We remain grateful!

We are appealing to other individuals and institutions of good will to kindly help us raise the balance $470, as fixing the toilet for the kids is a demand the Authorities at the Education Ministry are making. They are saying our school will not be allowed to re-open or operate next month, if the toilet is not fixed.

Please help us raise the balance $470 so that we can be able to fix the toilet and re-open our school to give the kids the opportunities to learn.

Thanks in advance for your willingness and readiness to help us raise the needed amount! Any and every amount will be appreciated! We need your help!

2024/2025 School Year Ends

As the academic year in Liberia runs from September to July each year, our school has closed for the 2024/2025 school year, planning to reopen in September for the 2025/2026 school year.

The closing program, which brought together students, teachers, parents, and others, was held on Sunday, July 13.

Some graduates of the Kindergarten and Sixth Grade classes

There were various activities during the program – recitations, songs, special remarks, and so forth.

The program also saw the graduation of students from Kindergarten, as well as from sixth grade. Those graduating from sixth grade will leave the school, as the school stops to grade six.

The guest speaker was one Mr. Alex Dahngbah. He encouraged the attendees on the essence of education and leadership.

During the delivery of his speech, he said: “Education is like a magical key that opens doors to new worlds. It helps us understand our surrounding, discover our passions, and develops the skills we need to become leaders of tomorrow.”

Also, speaking on behalf of the Board, Madam Monica Sackie thanked the parents for entrusting their kids in the care of the school. She also informed the parents and students that there will be some changes in the new school year, including change of the school’s name, change of the uniform, and some adjustments in the fees charged.

Some relatives of students

Having successfully ended the 2024/2025 school year, we members of the Board wish to express profound thanks to all students, parents, guardians, teachers, and well-wishers of the school.

We also wish to extend special thanks and appreciation to our friends and sponsors in Sweden, headed by Lena Thorne; our friends and sponsors in Norway, headed by Sissel Lavoll Martinsen; and our friends and sponsors in the United Kingdom, headed by Mary Smith.

As we look forward to the opening of the 2025/2026 school year in September, it is our prayer and hope that we and our friends and sponsors will continue to work together for the good of the education of poor children in Liberia, especially in Buchanan.

Once again, heart-felt thanks to all!

Monica and Becky Visit HLF School

Madam Monica Sackie, a member of the Board of Directors of the school, along with a friend of hers, on Tuesday, June 16, 2025, visited the school in Buchanan.

Madam Sackie’s friend, Madam Becky T. Oba, is a professional nurse working with Medicines San Frontiers in Monrovia. She is interested in education and in working with kids.

During their trip, they interacted with both the staff and the students. During their trip, also, they discussed with the staff about activities connected with the end of the school year and other plans about the school. It was a one-day visit.

Our profound thanks and appreciation to Monica and Becky for the trip and for interacting with the kids and the teachers.

Thanking Sissel and Ida

The Board of Directors of our school, Help Liberia Foundation Community School, wishes to express profound appreciation to Sissel Lavoll Martinsen and her daughter, Ida Martinsen, for showing kindness to the school.

Ida at the school in December, 2024

As you may recall, we sent out an S-O-S call in February for assistance relating to teachers’ salary payment due to financial difficulties facing the school.

In the process, Sissel and her daughter, Ida, two of our Norwegian guests who visited the school last year, made a financial contribution, which was sent to Lena, for the payment of teachers’ salaries.

Sissel and Ida

We are profoundly grateful to Sissel and Ida for thinking about and helping the school. Thank you, Sissel and Ida! We are grateful!

S-O-S Call for Support for Teachers’ Salary Payment

Help Liberia Foundation Community School in Buchanan, through its Board of Directors, would like to appeal to all institutions and individuals of good will to kindly come to the aid of the school, as it may be at the verge of collapse due to its inability to pay its teachers well and regularly.

The school needs about US$250 per month to be able to pay its teachers, and the school is incapacitated to raise this amount per month as the school is established to help educate children from poor background.

Already, some teachers are threatening to leave the school if their salary payment is not improved and regularized beginning next month.

We are receiving some assistance for teachers’ salary from some Swedish supporters and friends through Lena Thorne Marner and her husband (Anders Marner), but it is not enough to cover the monthly salary of US$250.

In order to attract qualified teachers and keep them in the school, especially for the sake of the underprivileged children, we wish to appeal to all good-will institutions and individuals to come to our aid.

If you wish to render support to our teachers’ monthly salary payment, you may do so using any of the following three means:

  1. Send your support to Lena and Anders Marner in Sweden, through PayPal at https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=95NTAM63YT8WE

  2. Send your support directly to the school’s bank account, using the following information:
Account title: Help Liberia Foundation Community School
    Account number: 6100271382
    Bank name: Ecobank Liberia Ltd
    Swift Code: ECOCLRLM
Address: 11th Street, Sinkor, Monrovia, Liberia

  3. Send your support using MTN Money Transfer directly to +231881895978.

Please support our teachers so that the school can continue to help poor children in Liberia.
